November Gathering!

Join us Monday November 28th for the second edition of "A Peoples' Gathering"!

With last month's gathering such a success, the PCC will be partnering with Le Frigo Vert to host yet another awesome gathering November 28th at 4pm - free food, talk and fun! Come one come all, more details below.

Monday November 28th, 4pm-7pm
@ Le Frigo Vert,
2130 rue Mackay, Lounge Area
A Peoples’ Gathering

Edition II of the new project brought to you by the Peoples Campus Coalition aimed at
building open, non-corporate, fun and politicized space for those who
wish to transform Concordia into a “peoples’ campus”

The PCC is launching its second “peoples' gathering" – a reoccurring get together for
anyone in the Concordia community interested in transforming the campus into a space that
is shaped for and by the people that comprise it (not just those few people at the top!).
In an age of increasing corporatization of space and neoliberal policy alienating
people from the decisions that govern them, a peoples' gathering aims to act as an
autonomous space for talkin' politics and organizing, making allies and friends, having fun,
making art and eating delicious and healthy food in a corporate-free atmosphere.

These evenings will include, among other things, free food and drinks and a chance
for those in attendance to announce any upcoming events, ask for help with campaigns,
share knowledge and get to know one-another in a space that is open and safe.
Music and art will always be warmly welcomed, though checking in about it first is
key. However, spontaneity and creativity are highly encouraged. Respect for one another
and an openness to various perspectives are a must. The basic idea: to create a space for learning, knowledge sharing, solidarity and fun that will ultimately strengthen our abilities to pursue our larger battles.

The November 28 event is being organized in collaboration with Le Frigo Vert. As
well as being an anti-capitalist store that provides affordable, healthy, and ethical food, Le
Frigo Vert is a public space that includes a lounge, kitchen, and gender neutral washrooms. It is open to anyone to hang out in as well as get informed about local activism and food and anti-oppression politics.

Come celebrate this special space with us!

Want to Help plan future gatherings? Want to add something to the space (art/music etc)? Want to help cook all the delicious food?

October's Gathering

The First ever people's gathering was a huge success!
Thank you to everyone who came out, helped clean, brought wonderful ideas and helped demolish the food!

Special thanks to QPIRG concordia for allowing us in the space! Remember that this awesome spot is open monday-thursday 12pm-6pm. As their website says..."Our space includes computers with internet access and software for creative projects. We have phones and a fax machine as well as a photocopier. We have a comfortable space with couches and chairs for people to come and relax in our lounge and library, as well as to hold meetings and events. Our space is wheelchair accessible and scent-free. The QPIRG staff are available to support you and your group and projects within the QPIRG mandate. If you have an idea, we can help make it a reality!"

Each gathering will be brought to you in partnership with various student groups, who will be given the floor for a portion of the evening to plug themselves and their endeavours.
The basic idea: to create a space for learning, knowledge sharing, solidarity and fun that will ultimately strengthen our abilities pursue our larger battles.

Hope to see you there!

Who is the Peoples' Campus Coalition (the PCC)?

Peoples' Campus Coalition is a coalition mandated to redistribute power equally to all those affected by the decision-making processes at Concordia University. We seek to empower all members of the community (students, staff, administration, faculty and the general public) by demanding, establishing and upholding:
 - representation
 - transparency
 - accountability
We operate in a consensus-based, non-hierarchical and oppression-free manner, welcoming all who strive for change.

We were born out of "campus against corporatization" - a coalition of people brought together in protest of corporate influence on campus. The main kick off being a sit-in protesting the secret re-signing of the PepsiCo contract and the subsequent "public assembly against corporatization on campus" which both took place in November, 2010
From these meetings the mandate, structure and name of the "peoples campus coalition" was formed.

The PCC has taken on several forms over it's last year, and is currently focusing on creating positive spaces for those on campus striving for change to come together, meet, share ideas and create a stronger base of resistance.

We are always looking for new members and hoping to find new ways to achieve campus solidarity.
